In 1987, Congress declared the
month of March as National Women’s History Month, and there is a special
Presidential Proclamation issued every year, honoring the extraordinary achievements
of American Women. Below is an excerpt
of the very first Presidential Message defending the implementation of National
Women’s History Month in 1980, given by former President Jimmy Carter:
"From the first settlers
who came to our shores, from the first American Indian families who befriended
them, men and women have worked together to build this nation. Too often the
women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the
achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who built
America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well.”
It is very important that we,
as Detroiters, celebrate our peers as they make strides for greatness on a
consistent basis. We are surrounded by
women who are making their mark in life, for the betterment of those that they
influence. One of those women is a Detroiter, Angela T. Jones, CEO of
Superwoman Productions and Publishing, and host of the Fab Life Radio Show (www.blogtalkradio.com/thefabliferadio).
On March 8, 2013
(International Women’s Day), Superwoman Productions and Publishing introduced
the ONLY International Women’s Day Event, a Women’s Day Tea themed ‘Sip and
Sushi’, held at Socra Tea (also a woman-owned business) in Detroit, Michigan. The event featured local women business
owners as vendors, and celebrated women in hip-hop music, with special
appearances from artists Lola Damone, Mae Day and Ms. Smiley, women who have
had great success in the entertainment industry. There was also a special live performance by
El DeBarge Jr., who appeared for the first time in Detroit to show support for
this great, historic event. Due to the
rave reviews by the crowd in attendance, there is huge anticipation for the
2014 sequel to this annual event, presented by SWPP.
We salute Ms. Jones and her “Super
Team” for this grand accomplishment.
